1. Eligibility

1.1. Any creative student in Secondary or Further Education, aged 11 years or over on the day the competition closes.
1.2. All elements of the work submitted must be the entrants own original work and have been created after 1 November 2023.
1.3. No entrant will be allowed to be part of either the decision-making process or the judging process.
1.4. The competition is free to enter. Any expenses incurred in the process of entering the competition will not reimbursed.

2. Copyright

2.1. Entrants remain the copyright holder to any images submitted by themselves.
2.2. Entrants shall be deemed to warrant that they own copyright in the entire work and, if necessary, that they have permission from any other copyright-owner/s to enter the work, and that all necessary model and/or property releases have been obtained. The entrant undertakes to indemnify Norwich University of the Arts and the sponsors of the competition in respect of any breach of the same.

3. Entries

3.1. Norwich University of the Arts reserve the right to display, reproduce and publish in any media, any entry, without payment, until the end of March 2025, for the sole purpose of promoting and publicising the university and this competition. Norwich University of the Arts also reserves the right to display images on the competition website and archive for an indefinite period unless the entrant requests otherwise in writing to Norwich University of the Arts. The photographer will be credited whenever the work is published or displayed.
3.2. Each entry must not contain any infringing, threatening, false, misleading, abusive, harassing, libellous, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, scandalous, inflammatory, pornographic or profane content.
3.3. Each entry must not contain any material that could constitute or encourage conduct which would be considered a criminal offence, give rise to civil liability, or otherwise violate any law.
3.4. Each entry must not infringe upon the copyrights, trademarks, contract rights, or any other intellectual property rights of any third person or entity, or violate any person’s rights of privacy or publicity, and your entry must not include:
• 3.4.1 Trademarks owned by third parties.
• 3.4.2 Copyrighted materials owned by third parties (including movie dialogue or musical compositions).
• 3.4.3 Names, likenesses, voices or other characteristics identifying celebrities or other public figures, living or dead.
3.5. No animals must be harmed or manipulated in the making of the image.
3.6. Entrants confirm that each individual whose image is featured in the competition entry has given consent for the use of their image in connection with this competition and in accordance with these terms and conditions. Where the subject of an image entered into the competition is aged less than 18 years, the entrant confirms that the parent or guardian of that individual has given the relevant consent.
3.7. It is a condition of entry that all terms and conditions are adhered to.
3.8. If you are under 18 years old, you must have your parent or legal guardian’s consent to participate in the competition. Consent will be assumed as part of your submission to this competition.

4. Printed Materials

4.1. In the event that a physical exhibition can take place, any exhibition prints will be retained by Norwich University of the Arts for up to twelve months after the exhibition. Entrants may request the prints.
4.2. Pursuant to 4.1, the Norwich University of the Arts reserves the right to dispose of any uncollected prints as it sees fit and without further notice.

5. Risk and Insurance

5.1. Norwich University of the Arts and any venue hosting the exhibition will not be responsible for any loss or damage to entries or exhibition prints, whether or not caused by negligence. Norwich University of the Arts strongly advises entrants to ensure that their own insurance covers any eventuality.

6. General

6.1. All entries must meet the conditions required under Entry Procedure, Technical Specifications and Format.
6.2. Norwich University of the Arts reserves the right to use its own discretion throughout, which may include, but is not limited to: Disqualifying any entrant not complying with the rules.
6.3. If it is believed that a contravention of the rules has taken place, Norwich University of the Arts reserves the right to examine original RAW files/negatives/positives. Any entrant unable or unwilling to supply the files/negatives/positives on request will be disqualified.
6.4. There will be no appeals against the decision of the judges and correspondence cannot be entered into regarding the decision-making process.
6.5. Any successful entrant may be called upon during the following 12-month period to participate in any appropriate marketing and PR activities for and on behalf of Norwich University of the Arts.

7. Entry Procedure, Technical Specification and Format

7.1. Entries must be submitted through the Beyond the Frame website. A current valid email address and telephone number must be included – all communications from Norwich University of the Arts will be made via email in the first instance.
7.2. All judging will be of digital files.
7.3. Up to a maximum of 3 images and 1 piece moving image (up to a maximum of 1 minute in length) can be submitted. Entries can consist of either individual images, a series of images on the same theme and/or a single piece of moving image.
7.4. You may only enter the same image/video once into the competition.
7.5. Neither the entrant’s name, nor any copy, must appear anywhere on the image.
7.6. File must be named with your full name, followed by a number. For example: JamesSmith1.
7.7. Images submitted online should be RGB (ideally Adobe RGB 1998) and in JPEG format. They should be 42cm wide on the largest side and 300dpi. Your final file size must not exceed 3 megabytes.

8. Deadline

8.1. The deadline for submission is 4pm Wednesday 21 February 2024 via the Beyond the Frame website norwichbeyondtheframe.com
8.2. Successful entrants will be informed as to whether their work has been shortlisted by early March 2024. Competition winners will be announced at the awards event on 28 March 2024.

9. Photography

9.1. Norwich University of the Arts may arrange for photographs and/or video footage to be taken at events and used for promotional purposes. These purposes may include but are not limited to printed documents or media, editorial use, use in advertising press and use on the internet for the purposes of promoting Norwich University of the Arts.
9.2. Entrants under 18 years old at the time of the event, who attend promotional events in relation to this competition, must have parental permission for use of images in press and promotional material. Consent will be assumed unless the entrant contacts Norwich University of the Arts prior to the event.

10. Data Protection

10.1. Personal information you provide is used by Norwich University of the Arts, and companies associated with the event, to process your entry and to contact you as required for the organisation and administration of the event.
10.2. If you provide consent we may email you about other Norwich University of the Arts news and events we think may be of interest to you.
10.3. By entering, Norwich University of the Arts may share your details with sponsors for the purpose of publishing the details of all winners, including the winning images.
10.4. The contact details (name and email address) of registered entrants will be placed on the Attendee List.
10.5. Norwich University of the Arts shall adhere to the Data Protection Act 2018 and the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR). Further information can be found in the Beyond the Frame Privacy Policy. We respect your privacy and will never sell your data to any third party.

11. Events beyond our control

11.1. Norwich University of the Arts will not be liable for any other costs incurred by entrants in the event of cancellation of this exhibition.
