Submission Deadline: Wednesday 15 February 2023, 4pm (GMT)
The Beyond the Frame photography competition is open to students aged 11 to 19 both in the UK and around the world, who are in full time Secondary or Further education. You do not need to be studying Photography or a creative subject in order to enter.
This year’s competition award categories are:
- 11-15 age category
- 16-19 age category
- ‘People’ – For people-focused imagery, such as portraiture, fashion or editorial.
- ‘Places’ – For imagery such as culture, nature, architecture, or landscape photography.
- ‘Things’ – For imagery such as still life, food/product, lifestyle or fine art photography.
When thinking about the work you’d like to produce and enter for the competition, you should consider the things that interest and excite you. Photography gives you the opportunity to explore and investigate the things that you care about, and through your approach you can tell others why your subject is so interesting.
Don’t worry about fitting your work too closely to the ‘People, Places, Things’ award categories. Focus on finding a subject that engages you and best shows your abilities, as this will shine through for the judges.
You can enter up to three photographs and one piece of moving image (up to one minute in length). They can be a series on the same theme or independent images. They must all be your own work.
Shortlisted entries will be displayed in an awards exhibition at Norwich University of the Arts between Thursday 30 March and Saturday 1 April 2023.
Shortlisted entrants will be informed via email in March 2023, with the winners to be announced at the awards event on 30 March.
